About

About Bo Nicholson

Bo Nicholson is a lifelong Raleigh resident, raised in North Carolina’s capital alongside his two younger brothers, William and Henry. Bo has maintained deep personal and professional roots in the city that shaped him.

After high school, he attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree from the Terry College of Business in 2010. His time in Athens extended beyond the classroom. Bo was also a member of a touring rock band, Mama’s Love, which performed extensively throughout the Southeast. The band recorded original material at respected studios, including Southern Ground in Atlanta and with producer John Keane in Athens. These formative years offered lasting lessons in collaboration, discipline, and the value of shared purpose. These lessons continue to inform his work today.

Though his professional path ultimately diverged from full-time musicianship, Bo remains closely connected to music. He regularly performs in Raleigh with a local cover band, Steamroom Etiquette, and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music continues to provide him with creative balance and personal fulfillment.

Professional Background

In 2012, Bo joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s rigorous Practice Management Development program and launched his practice through traditional grassroots efforts – cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These early experiences shaped his approach: relationship-driven, proactive, and grounded in service.

In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, partnering with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). He was drawn to the firm’s client-first culture and emphasis on long-term relationships. Since then, FRM has grown into a trusted advisory team serving high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina, with offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.

Bo holds both the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies – an acknowledgment of top-tier performance and client service across the firm.

Bo co-hosts a weekly personal finance radio show broadcast throughout the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show provides practical guidance on a range of financial topics and reinforces his belief in making financial education more accessible and engaging.

Planning Philosophy

Bo’s advisory practice is rooted in clarity, trust, service, and long-term perspective. He focuses on helping clients simplify complexity, reduce unnecessary tax exposure, and make intentional decisions across every stage of life. He serves as a strategic partner in some of his clients’ most meaningful decisions – whether preparing for retirement, funding education, transitioning a business, or stewarding family wealth across generations.

Each client relationship is approached with care, humility, and attentiveness. There is no one-size-fits-all solution; every plan is tailored, and every recommendation is made in the context of what matters most to the individual or family sitting across from him.

Personal Life

Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018 in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. After their honeymoon in Greece, they returned to Raleigh to build a life together—one that now includes their daughter Grove (born 2021), son Bill (born 2023), and a loyal yellow lab named Parker.

Outside of work, Bo is most often found with his family, on the golf course, or along the North Carolina coast. He remains passionate about live music and enjoys finding time to perform or attend shows. He is also a proud uncle to five nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to many. The values that guide his professional work – consistency, care, and authenticity – are deeply present in his personal life as well.

Looking Ahead

As he nears a decade with Capital Investment Companies, Bo remains focused on growth – not just of his business but of himself and the people around him. His efforts are aimed at building a thoughtful, people-centered firm culture while deepening the trust placed in him by clients and colleagues alike.

From the creative rigor of performance to the strategic demands of wealth management, his journey has been shaped by a commitment to purpose, integrity, and relationships. Through it all, Bo has remained steady in his belief that the most meaningful work is done one relationship at a time.
